Coraline is a 2009 stop-motion animated fantasy film based on Neil Gaiman’s 2002 novel of the same name.
The film follows Coraline Jones, an adventurous 11-year-old girl who discovers a secret door in her family’s new home that leads to an alternate world where her parents are more attentive and loving than in the real world.
The alternate world is inhabited by strange creatures, including the Other Mother, a sinister being who attempts to keep Coraline in her world forever by replacing her eyes with buttons.
The film was directed by Henry Selick and produced by Laika Entertainment, and features the voices of Dakota Fanning as Coraline, Teri Hatcher as the Other Mother, and Ian McShane as Mr Bobinsky.
It was released on February 6th 2009 to critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike; it won numerous awards including Best Animated Feature Film at both the Academy Awards and BAFTA Awards ceremonies in 2010.
